Rittenhouse Lifter

Invented by the Royal College’s Magus David Rittenhouse, and colloquially known as simply a “Lifter”, this is a Contragravity system (Spaceships 1 pp14) but it only provides 1G of lift per system. A Lifter is a high energy system which uses Magical Power Points (MP). It is used as the primary lifting system for Skyships. They cost a tenth of a normal Contragravity system.

Note: SM+11 is the largest practical size for wooden ships of the kind seen in Arcanum.

The apparatus itself is cased in gold filigree, but it is connected to the hull of the Skyship by a web of copper cabling, which itself can be the source of harmful mana radiation. Skyship sailors habitually use gold foil insoles in their boots but will still usually end up with one or two Twists after a career of several years.
